The Industry minister yesterday reviewed technical regulations and decisions for banning bottled water with volumes less than 200 millimetres and single-use plastic bags with a thickness of fewer than 35 microns in the Bahraini market.

This came as Zayed bin Rashid Al Zayani, the Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister, chaired the 54th National Committee Standardization and Metrology meeting.

The meeting also reviewed technical regulations and related decisions for biodegradable plastic products, liquefied gas cylinder transport vehicles, reinforcing steel (carbon steel bars), Gulf Technical Regulations for Electric Vehicles, and electronic nicotine products.

Bahrain, reportedly, will place a ban on plastic bags with a thickness of fewer than 35 microns from the 18th of September.

The meeting also reviewed Resolution 27/2022 issued by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to restructure the National Committee for Standardization and Metrology. It assigned Customs Clearance Department Director Waleed Yousif Ajoor as the Vice Chairman of the Committee, according to Article No. 4 of the Standards and Metrology Law.

The meeting also adopted the Gulf indicative guide for product safety and market survey in commitments of the Kingdom to the World Trade Organization.
