Municipal authorities have caught and sterilised 33 stray dogs in the Buhair area following multiple complaints regarding an alarming rise in the aggressive stray-dog population.

With no respite in the menace, citizens and residents have bombarded authorities with complaints and pleas on social media platforms, saying that the stray dog menace has become a 'major' concern in many parts of Bahrain.

Authorities are now addressing the issue by catching and sterilising packs of aggressive dogs. Professionals in the trade are now visiting areas to set up traps where aggressive canines are abounding.

Residents in the Buhair have complained about canines taking over the streets, making them unsafe for pedestrians. The Animal Wealth Service at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning said it is holding campaigns with a company specialised in catching strays.

Citizens and residents, authorities said, could submit complaints regarding stray dogs in residential areas online.

"Once people file a complaint, officials will visit the area to take necessary procedures," the authority said. Complaints can be made 24/7 on Whatsapp (38099994), where the response is automated. People could also file complaints by calling the hotline number 17155363 from Saturday to Thursday, 7 am to 3 pm.
