The High Criminal Court has upheld a 10-year jail sentence issued against an Asian man who was also fined BD2,000 for being involved in forcing a woman into prostitution.

The defendant is accused of luring an Asian woman to Bahrain with a fake job offer.

He reportedly locked her up when she arrived in the Kingdom of Bahrain in his apartment and bear her up to force her into prostitution.

He told her that she had to pay BD1,300 in order to be released. She was able to flee, though, and filed a complaint against him.

“I came to Bahrain to work. I was shocked to learn that I was brought to become a prostitute. I directly refused. However, I was forced,” the woman told prosecutors.

The Asian man was charged with human trafficking, fraud, kidnap, and forcing a woman into prostitution.
