Bahrain Labour Minister joins Indian community in celebrating International Labour Day

Labour and Social Development Minister Jamil bin Muhammad Ali Humaidan has commended the Indian community’s valuable contributions in the development process witnessed by Bahrain.

This came as Humaidan, who is also Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) Board of Directors Chairman, attended as guest of honour at the Indian Club’s annual celebration of International Labour Day on Sunday.

Present were the Ambassador of India to Bahrain, His Excellency Mr Piyush Shrivastav, and the club’s president, Mr K.M. Jiren, at its headquarters in Manama. In his statement, Humaidan congratulated the Indian community on the occasion and praised the depth of the historical relations between the two friendly countries.

He said the Kingdom is committed to ensuring a healthy and safe work environment, stressing that it has made great strides in promoting workers’ rights within the framework of its civilised commitment to human rights.

The Minister affirmed that Bahrain, thanks to the wise leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the government headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, was able to overcome the impact of the pandemic.

He also pointed out that the Kingdom has maintained the level of public health for all citizens and residents, especially in work sites and their places of residence, noting that there are many lessons learned from the pandemic in promoting occupational safety and health, foremost of which is the enactment of labour laws and legislation.

For his part, the Indian Club president praised the keenness of the Bahrain government to take care of workers’ interests, and to develop procedures and legislation related to their rights, as well as to combat any kind of discrimination.

Jiren lauded the government’s initiatives to protect workers and guarantee their rights, such as the implementation of the wage protection system, which ensures that wages in the private sector are transferred to their bank accounts on a regular basis and on time.
