Renowned Indian dancer Asha Sharath was at her best as she performed Bharatanatyam to Malayalam poetess Sugathakumari’s timeless poem ‘Krishna Nee Enne Ariyilla’ at Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS) last night.

The event was held as part of First BKS Indo-Bahrain Dance and Music Festival. The fully-packed crowd at BKS auditorium was enthralled after seeing the classical dancer’s mudras, postures, footworks and expressions that poured out the love and devotion for Lord Krishna.

“She is numero uno among Bharatanatyam performers,” said Indian national Sarat Chand. “I am really privileged to be here to witness this great performance. We are thankful to Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam for organising this event.”

Sheeba Prakash, another great Asha Sharath fan, said away from the dancing skills she loves the artiste’s versatility in acting too. “Asha Sharath and Sobhana are my favorite dancers. We are fortunate to be seeing this great performance in the Kingdom here.”

Asha, who is Dubai-based, is also an actress whose laurels include Malayalam blockbusters ‘Drishyam’ and ‘Varsham’. She is a renowned dance trainer, running a world-class dance academy in the UAE.

The festival is being held under the patronage of the Embassy of India and in association with Bahrain Authority for Culture Antiquities (BACA) and Soorya Stage and Film Society. It will conclude on May 14.

The highlights of the festival include an inimitable performance by the world renowned Sarod trio Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, and his sons Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash, renowned Veena player Rajhesh Vaidya, and his team of accompanying artists.

In the evening today, art enthusiasts can witness a night of musical magic orchestrated by Stephen Devassy, and his team Umayalpuram, Attukal Balasubrahmaniam and Amith Nadig.
