Bahrain participates in global space forum

National Space Science Authority (NSSA) Chief Executive Dr Muhammad Ibrahim Al Asiri has participated in the Forum of the Advisory Council for Space Generation, which was held under the title “Space Devices”. Dr Al Asiri attended the global event upon the invitation of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs.

More than 1,500 people from 152 countries gathered for the meeting, including representatives from space agencies and major companies in the space sector, as well as scientists, specialists, professors and researchers from across the world. Dr Al Asiri said: “The forum contributes to inter-generational communication in the space sector, and this is very important for maintaining the sustainability of the space sector and continuing to build on what has been achieved and learned in the past.

“Communication between generations is an absolute necessity, especially in a sector such as space, which is witnessing rapid growth, especially in this period when the world is witnessing a lot of change on various environmental, economic and political levels.

“Such a scientific forum constitutes a source of stability for thought and the world, as it rejects all problems and focuses on the development of science and cooperation in order to achieve prosperity and peace to serve humanity and to support efforts to achieve the internationally agreed upon sustainable development goals.”

The forum touched on the most prominent space devices that form the backbone of space activities today. Dr Al Asiri reviewed a number of them with a focus on the success achieved by the world through the cooperation of several countries in building and operating the International Space Station (ISS).

The ISS has had many contributions to serve technical development in various fields, which contribute to the flourishing of science and many industries that produce applications and diverse products that did not exist previously. The forum also presented a number of examples for the benefits of space industries in human life in areas such as health, agriculture, environment, security, communications, transportation, education, textile industries, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and others.
