Bahrain takes pride in continuing to build on a centuries-old history, during which “our authentic Bahraini values of tolerance, coexistence and respect for religions, beliefs and cultures, derived from the principles of our true Islamic religion, were rooted.”
This was emphasised by Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani as he participated yesterday in the inauguration of the Freedom of Religion and Belief Conference. The event was held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, in the presence of ministers, senior officials, ambassadors and guests.
The Minister welcomed the participants from the European Union (EU) to the conference that brings together policy makers and diplomats with religious and community leaders.
In his speech, Dr Al Zayani noted that Bahrain’s long experience as a regional trade centre has given Bahrainis a unique understanding of the value of cooperation and dialogue among all religions and societies.
They have also appreciated the benefits of these freedoms, based on the Kingdom’s keenness to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms regardless of gender, origin, religion or sect. Dr Al Zayani noted that the Kingdom grants freedom of religion and belief to all.
