Indian telecom firm dupes customer in Bahrain

Are you going to divulge the details of your credit card to buy any product or service online? Make enough enquiries about the genuineness of the company, before divulging the credit card information.

Here is a story of a person, who lost money due to the misuse of credit card by a telecommunication company, allegedly operating from Indian capital New Delhi.

According to Manama resident Manu Mathew, he lost altogether 70 dollars while dealing with the telecommunications company, which provides cheaper prepaid calling services.

DT News had reported in August the aggressive telemarketing strategy adopted by the same company. But the company has been successful until now in luring people like Mathew, who succumbed to the pressure of the telecommunication company. It was in September that Mathew started getting continuous call from the telecom company, asking him to buy cards. He did not know any idea as to where the tele caller got his Bahraini number. Finally, he subscribed to the prepaid calling services by paying 30 dollars. More than getting the international calling services at a lower rate, he wanted to get rid of continuous tele calls, which had been irritating him throughout the day. Later, he decided to discontinue with the service as the voice quality was very bad. But his woes did not end there.

Last month, again he started receiving continuous calls from the tele caller. “I received at least 20 to 25 calls in a day, persuading me to subscribe to their latest offers. But I declined,” he said.

To his surprise, he had lost 40 dollars from his credit card and the amount had directly gone to the account of the telecommunications company!

Interestingly, Mathew had not given his complete credit card details this time. Later, he realised the mistake while subscribing to the calling services for the first time. He had given the credit card details, including the CVV numbers, to the tele caller at that time. The telecommunications company misused Mathew’s credit card details this time, without his permission. Later, he contacted the telecommunications company through its whatsapp number and email ID. But the company has not yet repaid his money, he told DT News. Finally, he contacted the credit card company and blocked his credit card.

“If I won’t get 40 dollars back, I will go for a new credit card,” he said.
