Financial stability and economic sustainability are the two major goals of Bahrain’s government, said the Minister of Finance and National Economy yesterday.

Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa was delivering his keynote speech at the Economic Recovery Forum organised by the Shura Council and Bahrain Institute for Banking and Financial Studies when he made the statement.

Shaikh Salman thanked the legislative authority for the financial legislations carried out towards the economic development and in the larger interest of the people.

“In January, this year, we increased the social insurance in line with VAT increase. Built promising opportunities for citizens and our support scheme encompassed 128,000 families. “We will see positive results with stable oil prices and continue to build a robust economy for the nation.”

Shaikh Salman thanked His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for the great leadership offered in implementing the Economic Recovery Plan.

He pointed out that the Economic Recovery Plan is based on five priorities comprising 27 integrated programmes, and 16 of the 27 programmes included in the plan have been completed, and that the work is underway to implement 11 programmes during the coming period.

Shaikh Salman praised the constructive cooperation between the executive and legislative authorities in the Kingdom. He also stressed the important role of the private sector in advancing economic growth and enhancing its stability, which is reflected in the economic recovery plan initiatives by providing investment opportunities and competitive advantages that open many areas for the continuation of the strong partnership between the public and private sectors.

He thanked all members of the Bahrain team for their sincere work in the spirit of ‘One Team’ to implement the economic recovery plan, pointing out the importance of everyone joining together with the same determination to achieve the desired goals.
