Asians take BD25,000 loan cheating Bahraini woman
A Bahraini woman was shocked when a bank asked her to pay instalments on a BD25,000 loan fraudsters took under her name.
The woman in her 40’s never received the BD25,000 loan, which she applied for. Instead three Asian fraudsters received it. The woman got a call from the bank informing that she needed to start paying off instalments for the loan amount. Panicked, she called the police, who quickly began investigation. Within three days, the authorities cracked the case and arrested a man and a woman, both Asians, who were planning to flee Bahrain. However, a third suspect, also an Asian, escaped out of the country, although the Interpol is on his case.
The Asian man and woman had contacted the Bahraini woman, claiming that they were agents of a major bank.
They later called her up and said her loan application was rejected, when, in fact, it was accepted. “They took the woman’s signatures, filled out the required forms and even took her signature on a copy of her CPR card to complete all the documents. When the loan was sanctioned, they told the lady that her application was turned down. They allegedly made an Asian lady, fluent in Arabic, pretend as the Bahraini woman and take a call from the bank, convincing the official that she had taken the loan.
According to a report revealed by the Interior Ministry in its publication Al Amn, after the money was deposited in the Bahraini lady’s account, which was specially opened for the purpose, the fraudsters withdrew the cash using ATM card that came with the loan documents.
Investigators traced the phone number used by the culprits to communicate with the bank. It was later revealed that the Asian woman had visited the bank, wearing an Abaya, to finalise the paperwork on the loan and to provide the address to which the ATM card was to be sent.
Further investigations revealed that a fully covered woman came to the ATM machine to withdraw the money. Both of them confessed to the crime after interrogation.
