Campaign to promote ‘solidarity with nature’

Continuing with its relentless efforts to sensitise its students about the environmental issues of the current time and to motivate them to wake up to their responsibilities towards the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals, New Millennium School Bahrain heralded the World Environment Day celebration yesterday.
This year’s environment day celebrations at NMS saw the students participating in a gamut of activities organised during the classes. The spirited students actively participated in a series of activities that included Best out of Wastes, Poster designing, Slogan and Jingle Writing, PPT & Movie Making, Making of Paper and T-shirt bags and Orange peel bird feeder, Group discussions and speech delivery on issues of environmental sensitivity.
Activities conducted during the co-curricular periods such as drawing pictures, singing songs and dancing to the songs on environmental sensitivity added to the joy of the celebration. The students, in the role of young ecopreneurs, were the torch bearers of the mammoth campaign on effective waste management, manage the waste to create the best.
Putting their words into actions, the students created various items of home decor by using the reusable wastes. The students of kindergarten declared their solidarity to the campaign by creating a herbal garden wherein they planted various herbs of medicinal usage.
Principal Arun Kuumar Sharma, in his message to the students, touched upon the role of schools in instilling in the students the need to adapt to a lifestyle that promotes solidarity with nature. He also reiterated the theme for World Environment Day “Only One Earth” and focussed on the importance of sustainability and waste management to restore a healthy planet.
School Chairman Dr Ravi Pillai and Managing Director Mrs Geetha Pillai appreciated the whole-hearted efforts put in by the students, teachers and parents in proving that in line with the vision for the school they were true patrons of responsible, committed global citizens.
