Started by Chennai-based Subashri Natarajan in August, the group comprises of nearly a 1,000 Indian women from all parts of the world aged between eight years and 85 years. Subashri, an MBA graduate, has been an avid crocheter since the age of 10.

A group of highly enthusiastic Indian women under the guidance of Subashri Natarajan have taken upon themselves the task of crocheting 5,000

blankets measuring upto a total of 5,000 square meters with the aim of entering the Guinness World Records.

The current record set by South Africa in April 2015 stands at 3/377 square meters. Subashri and her team hope to break this record.

The Bahrain group will assemble in Andalus Garden on Saturday to help achieve the target. A Facebook page by the same name has been created and is already garnering interest amongst Indian women crocheters.

WhatsApp groups also have been created to keep track on the numbers. As the work is in full swing, the group is now looking for sponsors for the finale event to be held in Chennai, India on the January 26, 2016.

Guinness officials will fly down from London to measure the blanket and officially bestow upon the group the title of the World’s Largest Crochet Blanket.
