Shaikh Isa to lead MENA karting trio of Bahrainis

National karting champion Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa will spearhead a trio of Bahrainis this weekend in the first-ever Middle East North Africa (MENA) KF-Junior Championship at Bahrain International Karting Circuit (BIKC) in Sakhir.

The talented 15-year-old will be flying the Kingdom’s flag alongside fellow countrymen Zaid Qasem Audih and Hussain Ali Hassan, who are part of a nine-driver line-up that will be battling it out in this first-of-its-kind regional event. Also competing are Omani pair Khalid Al Wahibi and Shihab Alhabsi, while completing the strong field are Demos Episkopou from Cyprus, Yousef Al Amoudi of Saudi Arabia, Omar Abdulla of Egypt and Sami Taoufik of Morocco.

All the weekend’s action will run along BIKC’s 1.414-kilometre CIK Track. Tomorrow’s action for the MENA challengers is scheduled to begin at 6.15pm with the first free practice, the second at 7pm and third at 7.50pm with qualifying wrapping up the day’s events at 8.40pm.

On Saturday, a warm-up for the races is scheduled for 4.30pm. The Pre-Final is then set for 5.20pm, while the Final will flag off at 6.30pm.

This event is being organised by BIKC and Bahrain International Circuit in cooperation with the Bahrain Motor Federation (BMF). It is being supported by the Commission Internationale de Karting-Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (CIK-FIA).

Meanwhile, being held as part of the weekend’s programme is an exhibition round of the highly competitive Bahrain SWS Sprint Championship.

Karting enthusiasts of all skill levels, both men and women above the age of 16, are invited to suit up and compete in this arrive-and-drive category.

Four races (two per day) will take place over the weekend and participants can drive on one or both days and the entry fee is BD20 per day. Drivers will be provided with identical Sodikarts by BIKC. Tomorrow the SSWS action begins at 6.40pm with qualifying and the first race follows at 7.25pm and the second at 8.15pm.

On Saturday, SSWS qualifying is scheduled at 4pm with race one at 4.50pm and the second at 5.50pm.
