Murder Trial is adjourned in Bahrain

The trial of a 35-year-old Bahraini man, accused of murdering his friend, was yesterday adjourned till December 7 to assign a lawyer for him.

The defendant is said to have attacked his alleged victim on his head with a metal rod and the latter died later owing to the injury he sustained.

According to court files, the incident occurred following a dispute over stolen spareparts from a neighbouring stable.

The deceased, an alcoholic, was said to have been living in a separate room in his family house in the village of Al Musalla. His brother, who reported the death to the police, said he had found his brother lying on the ground in his room but thought he was sleeping.

“My mother told me to go and check my brother’s room again after we heard a noise from the room. But, when I went, I saw him lying and thought he was drunk and taking a nap,” the brother said in his statement.

“I went to him the next day, and he was again in the same position, motionless. I shook his body, but he didn’t move. So, I called the police and an ambulance, “ he added.

The forensic report then found that the victim was hit with a physical object on his head, causing internal bleeding as well as fractures

to his skull. An eyewitness told the detectives about the embroilment of the suspect after watching him in a stable attacking the victim.

“I was passing by the stable when I saw him (the defendant) assaulting the victim owing to a dispute over stolen items,” the eyewitness said in his statement. “He carried a metal rod and hit him on his head and body,” he added.

The defendant, however, admitted to the attack but ruled out causing death. “I attacked them in order to force them to divulge whether they were behind stealing some spareparts from the stable after they had a drinking session,” he said.
