Nivedhya Vinod Kumar, an Indian School student, has entered the India Book of Records for craftworks using waste materials. She made 70 artefacts, including flowers, wall hangings, snowmen, dolls, lanterns and hand mirrors using plastic bottles, pistachio shells, aluminium foil, paper cups, cardboard, old newspapers and waste bottles.

Nivedhya, a 12-year-old, is a grade 8 student at the Indian School Bahrain Isa Town campus. When asked about her achievement, Nivedhya said: “I have always seen many kinds of waste materials around me, mainly plastics and other reusable waste materials.: “So, I thought, if I started reusing all the reusable waste items, I can create a hobby and reduce waste.

“My first craft was bottle art, and I felt very interested in doing this. By doing this, I learned a new skill, and I learned that this could increase my creativity and make our earth less polluted. I enjoyed doing these crafts, and I started doing more.”

Nivedhya is the daughter of Vinod Kumar, a Manager at Miracle Hitech Company, Gudaibiya and Rejitha Kumari. The family hails from Kollam District in Kerala, India. ISB Chairman Prince S Natarajan, Secretary Saji Antony and Principal VR Palaniswamy congratulated her on her achievement.
