Bahrain reportedly plans to introduce Mir, a Russian payment system, for tourists soon. Reports, quoting Ambassador of Bahrain to Russia Ahmed Abdulrahman Al Saaiti, said Bahrain would deploy the system for the convenience of tourists.
The announcement came during a meeting of Al Saaiti with the head of Bashkiria Radiy Khabirov at SPIEF-2022. According to Khabirov, they were supposed to meet in 2020, but the pandemic delayed it.
Mir is a Russian payment system for electronic fund transfers established by the Central Bank of Russia under a law adopted on 1 May 2017. Russian National Card Payment System, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Central Bank of Russia, operates the system. Egypt and Thailand are also reportedly working on a Mir card acceptance project.
