A 62-year-old Indian expatriate woman, who has been seriously ill and bed-ridden, is finally set to fly home next week. It is learnt that Radhika Baignath, who has been bed-ridden for over one-and a-half years now, will continue her treatment in India. Last December, The Daily Tribune reported the ordeal faced by Radhika and her family, which comprises 66-yearold husband Mangalnand Kishore and 11-year-old son Prince Kumar.

According to sources, Radhika suffered a stroke two years ago and her health condition was worsened by acute diabetes and hypertension. She has been undergoing treatment at Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC). “I am an old man and not in a position to take care of my bed-ridden wife. I will be having my relatives to help me once I return home,” Mr Mangalnand earlier told The Daily Tribune. The family lives in a dilapidated building in Gudaibiya.

“I came here at the age of nine along with my father, who ran a laundry here then. I have been a resident here for many decades now.” The family hails from Unnao district in Uttar Pradesh State of India. Speaking to The Daily Tribune, social worker and charity initiative Hope Bahrain Secretary Sibin Salim said it would be a great relief for the family to return home and pursue further treatment there. “I must thank the Indian Embassy for taking up this matter very seriously.

Social worker Sudhir Thirunilath has been a great support. Azhkar Poozhithala, Shaji Elambalayi and Sabu Chiramel of Hope Bahrain also contributed their efforts to support the family,” he added. A nursing staff will be accompanying the family in their journey back home to support medical needs.
