Bahrain has made important achievements in the development of the criminal justice system, both in legislation and in practice. This was affirmed by Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Nawaf bin Mohammed Al Maawda who pointed out to the importance of cooperation between the executive and legislative branches.

He added that the cooperation has contributed to a fundamental change in judicial field, aiming to achieve the objectives of the comprehensive development process under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

Al Maawda highlighted the law on restorative justice for the protection of children from abuse, which priorities children in all decisions and procedures related to it, regardless of the entity issuing or undertaking it, in line with international standards in this regard.

He noted that one important key of this law is the child’s social report, which will be prepared by specialists in psychological and social fields before the High Corrective Justice Court for Children, considering continuous judicial oversight of the child’s condition and monitoring of his condition during the implementation of the alternative measure.

The decision made will be based on the reports submitted on his condition on whether to continue to implement the measure or punishment, or replaces it with another or have it terminated, with a periodic follow-up of his social and psychological condition and the extent of progress and improvement in his condition.
