Bahrain maintains sufficiency in basic commodities: Minister

Bahrain continues to monitor global market prices and the availability of goods to ensure the security of basic commodity supply lines in Bahrain.

The Minister of Industry and Commerce made a presentation yesterday at the weekly Cabinet meeting on the Ministry’s plans to highlight the sufficiency of basic commodities for all regardless of circumstances.

This comes in light of the global developments that have impacted energy supplies, logistics and the prices of goods. Following the presentation, the Cabinet thanked the Industry Ministry for its efforts in securing the provision of basic commodities.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure, Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, chaired the session held at Gudaibiya Palace.

Bilateral talks

The Cabinet emphasised the importance of bilateral talks held between His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Egypt President Al Sisi, which were attended by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

During the meeting, the importance of enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation between Bahrain and Egypt was noted, with the agreements and MoUs signed cited by the Cabinet as evidence of a fruitful visit.

The Cabinet commended the official opening of the new passenger terminal at Bahrain International Airport by HM the King and Al Sisi, conducted in the presence of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. The Cabinet highlighted the airport’s role in enhancing the Kingdom’s position in the aviation sector and supporting development.

The Cabinet also commended the airport’s workforce for contributing to Bahrain’s aviation successes. To mark the upcoming Eid Al Adha holiday, the Cabinet extended its best wishes to HM the King, HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and the people of Bahrain.

Team Bahrain efforts

The Cabinet commended Team Bahrain’s efforts to implement the Kingdom’s Economic Recovery Plan and Fiscal Balance Program.

Both initiatives have received international recognition from institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) report on Bahrain’s progress toward fiscal stability and economic prosperity. In this regard, the Cabinet emphasised the importance of continuing with efforts to achieve the Kingdom’s desired goals.

Regarding a review of a memorandum submitted by the Minister of Cabinet Affairs, on developments within the Government Priority Framework 3.0 (GPF 3.0), the Cabinet has directed relevant ministries to develop an executive plan for the remaining 29 projects within GPF 3.0 that aim to achieve financial sustainability and development. Executive plans are to be submitted to the Cabinet by ministries as soon as possible.

Cabinet discusses, approves key memorandums

The Cabinet yesterday discussed and approved the following memorandums:

1. A memorandum by the Ministerial Committee for Legal and Legislative Affairs regarding regulations connecting relevant authorities to the electronic system of commercial records.

2. A memorandum by the Minister of Municipalities and Agriculture Affairs regarding the acquisition of real estate for public use to provide the necessary spaces for urban development.

3. A memorandum by The Ministerial Committee for Legal and Legislative Affairs regarding the government’s response to six proposals and two law proposals submitted by the Council of Representatives, and one law proposal submitted by the Shura Council.

The Cabinet reviewed the following topic:

1. A memorandum by the Minister of Interior regarding the priorities, policies, and programmes of the Ministry of Interior according to the Government Action Plan 2019-2022.

The Cabinet took note of the Ministerial reports on the award ceremony of UNESCO-King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa Prize for the Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Education, the award ceremony of HH Shaikh Salem Al Ali Al Sabah Informatics Award, and the participation in the Transforming Education Pre-Summit.
