Bahrain ‘Real estate sector will fight hurdles’

key exhibition and forum, Bahrain International Property Exhibition (BIPEX), which brought together major players in the real estate industry in Bahrain, opened yesterday.

Bahrain’s premier property expo that opened yesterday at 10 am saw the participation of dignitaries, investors and government officials. Organised by the Bahrain Society of Engineers (BSE), the event was held at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre. The expo was inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa.

BIPEX Organising Committee Chairman Mohammed Khalil Alsayed said the real estate sector could improve as Bahrain’s economy gradually overcame its challenges. “In the run-up to holding BIPEX 2015, we were concerned about the challenges faced by our domestic economy, particularly, the property sector.

The first is the current state of play in the commodity market and the crude oil sector. The second is a view held by many analysts that global economic growth is not picking up in a way it should have and that some markets, especially prospects in China, pose some challenges that impact the rest of the economies. The third is the continuation of the low interest rate policies in the major markets and how soon would we see a lift-off, especially in the US,” he said.

“In regard to the depressed oil prices, there is a view that this is a phase just like the previous cycles and the next year is critical for consolidation in this sector,” he added.
