Bahrain yesterday secured nearly $100 million in funding from Abu Dhabi firms for enhancing the water transmission capacity of Al Dour Station. The project, part of the second phase of Al Dour station, will see the capacity of its water transmission networks increased to 50 million gallons -- a reserve capacity suitable for satisfying the everyday needs of the residents there for at least three days.
The station will also serve construction, investment and industrial projects, thereby supporting EWA’s water strategy until 2030, which aligns with the United Nations’ sustainable development goals (SDGs).
Under the agreement, Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) committed funding of $41 million and ADEX $51 million. Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, the Finance and National Economy Minister, signed the deals with Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, the ADFD Director-General, and Khalil Fadel Al Mansoori, the ADEX Acting Director-General, who are currently visiting Bahrain.
Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan, Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs of Bahrain and other top officials, were present at the signing. Signing the deal, Shaikh Salman said developing infrastructure projects forms a fundamental pillar of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, efforts to promote development and achieve sustainable economic growth.
“UAE’s role in supporting Bahrain embodies the depth of the deep-rooted bonds between them and promotes joint Gulf action,” said the minister. Shaikh Salman also attributed their continuous development to the interest accorded by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and UAE President Shaikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Al Suwaidi said the signing represents the depth of the brotherly relations between the UAE and Bahrain and their strong bonds. “ADEX will work closely with Emirati companies by facilitating credit lines and financing solutions to Tecton Engineering and Construction LLC that will undertake the construction of the second Al Dour pumping station, including two tanks, each with a capacity of 20 million gallons, in addition to civil, mechanical and electrical works, along with the installation of the latest communication and control systems,” Emirati News quoting Al Mansoori said.
