Works Minister Eng. Ibrahim bin Hassan Al Hawaj paid an inspection visit to the work site of the Janabiya Street expansion project and the development of the upper Jasra junction ramp No. 1 in the Northern Governorate. They are among the important projects included in the government’s plans to reduce traffic congestion on major thoroughfares.
Works on Al Janabiya Street expansion project, which is part of the third package of the Salman City Ports Development Program, and the development of the adjacent road network havestarted. According to Al Hawaj, the project will help boost the capacity of the street and reduce travel time for its users and residents of the Northern Governorate areas and villages extending on its side to the to Salman City.
The Janabiya Street expansion project is an essential contribution to the infrastructure and development of the surrounding roadways leading to Salman, one of the major housing cities in the country. It will also contribute to facilitating the flow of traffic through the movement of citizens and residents to and from their homes, in addition to increasing the capacity and creating a safe environment for users of the same street.
Al Hawaj noted that the number of vehicles on the roadway has been steadily increasing over the years at a rate of 3 percent annually. The street’s traffic flow reaches 54,600 cars per day, with a capacity of around 6,700 vehicles per hour. Expanding the route to three lanes in each direction and creating traffic crossings will allow for 10,500 cars per hour in both directions during peak hours.
