The High Criminal Court is hearing the case of two African men who are accused of mugging a Bahraini man by using a toy gun.
The pair responded when they heard the accusations levelled against them by saying that they were drunk and unable to remember the event.
The Court decided to postpone the hearing until August 1, 2022 for review and to receive the defendants’ defense. Prosecution accused the defendants that on June 22, 2022 they had stolen cash from the victim after one man aimed a fake gun to his face while the other threatened him with a knife.
Fearing for his life, the victim stopped resisting which gave the defendants an opportunity to steal the goods and flee.
“I was near an ATM machine in Sanad when the first defendant drew a knife, while the second defendant pointed a fake gun to my face which I thought it was real at that time. Cornered and frightened, I pulled out BD50 from my wallet after being struck on my waist. The two African men took the money and fled the scene,” the 38-year-old victim told prosecutors.
The security cameras of the ATM were later on reviewed, investigation intensified and authorities were able to acquire the identity of both men, leading to the capture of the first defendant where he was asked about the incident and admitted to the accusations that were made against him. Tools that were used to commit the crime were discovered at his residence.
