Bahrain's Meteorological Department has predicted unstable weather conditions over Bahrain, which at times could turn thunderous today and tomorrow. "There will be scattered rains of varying intensity, which could get thunderous at different regions in the Kingdom," warned the department under the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications.

MTT said it is seeing tropical depressions approaching the southern regions of the Arabian Peninsula. "These tropical depressions are making their rounds more and more in the regions, especially in the Southern Gulf."

"Last year, Bahrain experienced these depressions, especially in the South with heavy rains and rapid flashes, which are unusual at this time of the year." Based on a numerical prediction model, the ministry said that Bahrain will experience thundery rains today, while there are chances of rain until Saturday.

Torrential rains, it said, could wreak havoc in low-lying areas where there are chances of water accumulation. The General Directorate of Civil Defence urged citizens and residents yesterday to secure loose objects and put away any materials that might give away in the rains.

"Thundery showers are to hit the Kingdom at times with strong gusts causing rough seas and rising sands," met officials said. The General Directorate of Civil Defence, in a statement to citizens and residents, said that rains, accompanied by highspeed winds, are expected to wreak havoc in the Kingdom. The warning also said that operations rooms would work around the clock.

The Coast Guard Command urged sea-goers to take precautions. The General Directorate of Traffic called on drivers to observe extreme caution during rains. "Drivers should adhere to all traffic safety measures, including following the correct path, specified speed, safety distance, and correct overtaking methods," the statement said.
