Bahrain Summer Festival brings down curtain on its 14th edition with unique adults and children’s performances

The 14th edition of the Bahrain Summer Festival concluded on Sunday with flying colours.

Numerous live artistic performances and more than 500 fun workshops for children and adults alike took place at the Bahrain National Museum, the Art Centre and Cultural Hall for three consecutive weeks last month to enrich the cultural movement in Bahrain.

This year’s edition, from July 11 to 31, was held under the slogan “Golden Edition” to reflect the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities’ programme for 2022 which is “Golden Jubilee”, celebrating Bahrain’s outstanding achievements.

As part of the festival, the Heritage Commission of the Saudi Ministry of Culture presented a number of workshops at the Arts Center to introduce the famous handicrafts in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Other activities were aimed at preparing a generation that understands the value of antiquities and protects and celebrates them. Throughout the festival, it featured an extensive programme of cultural activity that included a series of workshops, an exciting programme of performances, and live artistic and entertainment activities on stage.

Over the course of four weeks and at an average of two days a week, young people between the ages of seven and 12 took part in the programme consisted of workshops focusing on aspects of Bahraini crafts.

These workshops included pottery, the manufacture of wooden boxes, Saf al Khoos (palm tree basket making), and engraving on gypsum, which are among the most important crafts today. On the final night, creative Bahraini trio Mohammed Al ajjar, Haya Al Hamad and Lian Al Hamad performed on the piano famous international musical pieces.

The Cultural Hall also hosted many international performances, including Brainiac Remixed Theater’s famous science show; the theatrical performance “Little Jellyfish” in collaboration with the Embassy of Palestine; a Korean dance and music show in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea; an Alice in Wonderland play in collaboration with the Embassy of the US; and a Show Spanish flamenco.

The Da Silva Circus Puppet Troupe from the UK also performed at the hall. Live Indonesian folk dance and live Angklung music performance were two performances held in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Bahrain.

Finally, the Cultural Hall hosted the Italian theatrical performance Marco and Rolanda’s Bubbles Revolution. The Nakhoul Star competition returned as part of the Bahrain Summer Festival, with dozens of children competing for the title.

Esraa Ahmed, a girl, won the title in the acting category after a series of training and qualifications. The BACA, under its president Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, expressed its appreciation and gratitude to all festival participants, including ambassadors, representatives of diplomatic missions to Bahrain, supporters, sponsors of the festival, organisers, employees, government agencies, civil institutions and members of the media, who helped enrich the various programs and make this year’s edition a big success.
