Bahrain restructures committee on smoking and tobacco products

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, yesterday issued Edict (40) of 2022, restructuring the National Committee to Control Smoking and All Types of Tobacco and its Products.

Chaired by the Minister of Health, the committee shall comprise the following members:

1. Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health at the Ministry of Health;

2. Director of the Testing and Metrology Directorate at the Ministry of Industry and Commerce;

3. Director of Communications and Environmental Awareness Directorate at the executive apparatus of the Supreme Council for Environment;

4. Director of the Human Resources Directorate at the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture;

5. Head of the School Health Section at the Ministry of Education’s Student Services Directorate;

6. Director of the Customs Clearance and Customer Services Directorate at the Ministry of Interior’s Customs Affairs;

7. Director of the Television Directorate at the Ministry of Information Affairs;

8. Director of the Youth Empowerment Directorate at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs;

9. President of the Bahrain Anti-Smoking Society;

10. Head of the Anti-Smoking Group at the Ministry of Health’s Public Health Directorate.

According to the edict, members of the National Committee to Control Smoking and All Types of Tobacco and its Products shall serve for a renewable three-year term.

The committee may seek the assistance of experts and specialists it deems appropriate to its duties to attend its meetings, provided that the experts and specialists attending do not vote in its resolutions.

Edict (21) of 2019 on restructuring the National Committee to Control Smoking and All Types of Tobacco and its Products shall be abrogated.

The Minister of Health and those concerned, each in their capacity, shall implement the provisions of this edict, which takes effect upon its publication in the Official Gazette.
