Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture, Eng. Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, has launched the afforestation project in Diyar Al Muharraq in line with the national strategy aimed at doubling the number of trees by the year 2035 as part of Bahrain’s commitments.
Eng. Al Mubarak and his accompanying delegation toured the place. They discussed the importance of afforestation and ways of cooperation between the two sides to achieve national aspirations related to preserving and sustaining the environment and increasing the area of green spaces in the Kingdom, which would contribute to promoting sustainable urban development.
The Minister said: “There are a number of initiatives and policies to increase afforestation projects in the Kingdom, and we encourage all individuals to participate in each of them.” Diyar Al Muharra’s afforestation project comes as one of the important private sector initiatives in this aspect.
The types of trees that will be planted within the various initiatives have been identified, and they are large evergreen trees that were selected due to their suitability to the climatic conditions of the Kingdom and their low water consumption.
Eng. Al Mubarak praised Diyar Al Muharraq’s cooperation and interaction with the Ministry in implementing the afforestation initiatives. Eng. Ahmed Ali Al Emadi, CEO of Diyar Al Muharraq, praised the support of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture, the facilities provided by the ministry to investors, and its work on developing urban development and introducing the private sector as a key partner in the areas of urban development and investment.
