The High Appeals Court has ordered the Ministry of Works and Municipalities Affairs to pay BD40,000 to a tenant of a farm as compensation for properties he constructed on the farm. According to court files, the plaintiff leased the farm after signing a 14-year contract.

The plaintiff started building amenities on the property so that it could be rented out on a daily basis to families and individuals However, a decision was made to acquire the land from the owner for a housing project, as a result of which an expert was hired to evaluate the value of the properties built by the tenant.

The expert valued them nearly at BD40,000, but the tenant requested a second evaluation, whose result came the same. The plaintiff requested the Ministry of Works and Municipalities Affairs to release the payment. However, the Ministry kept stalling under the pretext that there was an ongoing legal case between the owner and the tenant.

And this prompted the latter to file a lawsuit against the Ministry. The Court ruled in favour of the plaintiff, obligating the Ministry to settle the payment.
