Celebrating 21st anniversary of Supreme Council for Women

Bahraini women’s outstanding achievements across all spheres were hailed yesterday by Parliament speaker Fawzia bint Abdulla Zainal and Shura Council Chairman Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh in congratulatory messages to HM King, HRH Crown Prince and Prime Minister and HRH Princess Sabeeka on the occasion of the 21st anniversary of the establishment of the Supreme Council for Women.

The Supreme Council for Women, established on the 22nd of August 2001 by Amiri order No. 44, is directly affiliated to the His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of HM the King, chairs the Council that includes not less than 16 members, representing figures experienced in women’s affairs and various related activities. Their membership term is three years and is renewable.

In a message to HM King, HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and HRH Prince Sabeeka, Speaker Zainal hailed the contributions of Bahraini women to supporting family stability, cohesion and bolstering active partnership for national development. “The establishment of the Council came as a result of HM the King’s wise vision and pioneering approach, which supported Bahraini women’s advancement,” said Al Saleh.

He commended the Council’s pioneering role in advocating issues related to women and optimizing their social, economic, professional and political contributions, which turned Bahrain into a model for women’s progress. Hala Mohammed Jaber AlAnsari is the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Women and Shaikha Mariam bint Hassan AlKhalifa is the Vice President of SCW.
