Over 1,000 abandoned vehicles towed away in Bahrain
A municipal official announced recently that more than 2,000 abandoned vehicles are scattered around the Capital Governorate and around 1,000 of those have been towed away.
Capital General Secretariat General Director Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa said that “necessary administrative and legal procedures have been taken against the owners of the abandoned vehicles.”
Shaikh Mohammed said that 102 vehicles were referred to the General Directorate of Traffic.
“The vehicles will be publicly auctioned as their owners are not cooperative,” the general director explained.
“As many as 2,034 vehicles were found abandoned in the Capital. The Capital General Secretariat towed 1,021 of them away from residential areas, yards and public roads; the rest 1,013 vehicles will soon be towed away,” he said.
However, after being notified by secretariat, the owners removed 794 vehicles (46 per cent) they abandoned from the roads, Shaikh Mohammed said. At the same time, he stated that inspectors of the secretariat are roaming different areas of the governorate, responding to the complaints received from citizens and residents.
As for the vehicles abandoned on private lands that aren’t sieged, the owners are notified to take them away, the general director said.
He called upon the public to report any law violation related to abandoning cars in public places to the Secretariat’s hotline 80001855 or website www.mun.gov.bh or during official working hours on 17221415.
