The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has received a request from two Bahraini families stuck at Kutaisi International Airport in Georgia to end their ordeal and make arrangements for their safe return to Bahrain. A member of one of the stranded families, Muhammad Abdullah, spoke to our sister paper Al Ayam about the tough situation they had to face in a foreign land. “Concluding our trip to Georgia, we went to the international airport in Kutaisi to catch a flight for Abu Dhabi, which is the transit before flying to Bahrain.

We were really shocked to know that the flight had been cancelled hours before the scheduled take off time. “We approached the flight’s counter and explained our ordeal to them. However, their response was a thunderbolt to us.

“They gave us three options: return by booking new tickets of other airlines or travel to a different nation at our own expense and book a different flight back home from there, or wait there for 10 days for the departure.” Muhammad added, “We informed them that hardly we possessed the money or other resources to stay there for longer periods and the group comprised 13 individuals belonging to two Bahraini families.

But they showed no lenience and refused to give housing as well as other facilities. We are now left with not many choices.” Muhammad is now seeking assistance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the plea has been passed on to the ministry through our sister paper Al Ayam.

“We have been stuck here for more than 24 hours now; we are running out of money and will have to survive without food or water. All of us, last night, had to sleep on the airport floor as there was no other go.”

The Daily Tribune is awaiting a response from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as it could not be obtained until the Press time. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been highly instrumental in bringing back the Bahrainis and their families stranded in the Ukrainian cities as Russian forces invaded the nation about six months ago.

The ministry has always emphasised its keenness to protect the nationals abroad whenever they get entrapped in untoward situations. It has guided them to safety while finding ways to facilitate their journey back home.
