More than 29,000 Bahraini youngsters received job training in 2021 through 83 training institutions supervised by the Ministry of Labour, said Labour minister Jameel Humaidan. Training in the occupational health and safety sectors proved an instant hit, where trainees received both theoretical and practical lessons.
Forty per cent of the participants opted for industrial and construction equipment training, 29% for administrative programmes, 16% for engineering (aviation, electrical and mechanical), and 15% for communication, languages, medical, catering and hotel sectors. The ministry said the effort was to identify the challenges and opportunities and link the training institutions to the actual need in the labour market.
The ministry, he said, is focusing on licencing new training institutions in the industrial, construction, engineering, technology and service sectors. "We are also focusing on Artificial Intelligence, the digital economy, technological, industrial and economic progress in addition to encouraging vocational training institutions to design national vocational programmes to match the market needs," the minister added. The minister also affirmed that Labour Ministry, in association with the Labour Fund (Tamkeen), is continuing efforts to support private training institutions and improve their quality.
"We aim to develop Bahrain as a regional hub for training and human resource development, thereby increasing the long-term productivity of the commercial sector," Humaidan said.
