Illegal car salesmen exploit Bahrain public property
Used-car businesses parking their cars in public property instead of a showroom has drawn the ire of the public and the authorities.
Recently, certain fields in the city are being encroached by second-hand car salesmen to display and sell their cars.
According to authorities, such use of public property for business-related activities is illegal. However, these sales representatives continue to use the fields to display the cars, causing inconvenience to residents.
According to the residents, such sales using the public property has been on the rise recently. They said that despite authorities taking action every times, the salesmen find alternate locations do conduct their business.
Capital Secretariat Chairman Mohammed Kozaie said that the Capital Secretariat is aware of the issue.
“We have already started taking action. Our priority is to remove all the abandoned cars first and then concentrate on these cars that are for sale. However we are doing our best to remove these cars that are for sale,” said the chairman.
“General Directorate of Traffic is also working to control this issue. We are giving warnings to the cars that are parked there. Our efforts have reached many locations, and soon all of Manama will be completely taken care of,” he added. “There are a huge number of cars lined up in the fields... These salesmen park here to escape showroom rent,” David, a Juffair resident, remarked.
“By them parking to conduct business here, they take up our parking spaces,” added another distressed resident, “We’re forced to park our cars further away from our homes.”
