Alba video invokes mixed reaction
A video involving the recently-terminated employees of Alba has gone viral on YouTube as it received nearly 67,000 hits so far.
The 3.35-minute-long video, produced in Arabic, has asked the Alba management not to compare their company with Asry.
Interestingly, the video received 409 likes and 482 dislikes from the viewers. In the meantime, it earned mixed reaction from the viewers as some stated that it was a creative idea, while others criticised the producers, stating that mockery was not a right idea to show their protest towards Alba.
The video came immediately after the Alba management took the decision to discontinue the services of a group of employees who had been undergoing training at the company.
The employees under the aegis of Alba Labour Union took out a protest demonstration from the factory to the Labour and Social Development Ministry in Zayed Town on October 28 against the termination move. Protest continued on the Alba premises on the next day also.
Following this, the Alba management took a decision to reinstate all the 53 vocational trainees on November 1, bringing an end to the issue. However, the video remained on YouTube, reaching a whole spectrum of people.
Commenting on the issue, head of Media and PR of Alba Labour Union, Abdulla Al Moaraj told DT News that the vocational trainees, who were terminated and reinstated recently, had produced the video.
Meanwhile, Al Moaraj said that Alba couldn’t be compared with Arsy as the working conditions are entirely different. “Working conditions in Alba are really challenging, compared to Asry since Alba is a smelter, where the temperatures may exceed 45°C,” he said.
