First Monkeypox case reported in Bahrain

The Ministry of Health reported the first case of the "Monkeypox" virus in Bahrain.

The patient, a 29-year-old male expatriate, has arrived to the Kingdom after recent travels abroad.

The patient is experiencing symptoms and has been isolated while receiving the necessary care, based on the adopted protocols.

The ministry affirmed that it is taking the necessary measures, to mitigate the spread of the virus through contact tracing and disease surveillance mechanisms.

It stressed its readiness to deal with developments, based on set local and global disease prevention protocols, while continuing to cooperate with regional and global health bodies.

As part of its proactive efforts to combat the spread of the virus, the Ministry of Health has put in place a contingency plan and conducted awareness sessions for health workers about the virus and transmission modes.

The ministry has also set up a reporting mechanism for suspected cases at the Public Health Directorate, provided testing requirements, and adopted contact-tracing plans, in addition to providing vaccinations.
