11 riot-accused jailed in Bahrain

Eleven defendants, accused of rioting in Sitra, have been jailed for 10 years each. The Bahraini men were said to have targeted police patrols with stones and firebombs. But a vehicle, occupied by a 46-year-old woman and her child, got damaged instead after being hit with a Molotov cocktail.

“I was driving the car, owned by my husband, and suddenly the vehicle plate caught fire after it was hit with a firebomb,” the woman told the prosecutors.

“I asked my child to leave, and then I jumped out the car,” she added. The woman suffered multiple wounds all over her body because of the fall, while the car went in flames and collided with the concrete kerb.

The defendants were ordered by the High Criminal Court to pay a combined total of BD1,800 for the damages caused to the vehicle.
