The Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities plans to create a new square north of Siyadi Majles as part of the pearling project. There are currently 16 public spaces as part of the 3.5 km pearling project that crosses the narrow lands of old Muharraq.
The public squares serve as spaces of encounter and interaction between the residents and the visitors to the path and act as places of gathering for leisure, rest, and interaction between community members.
The current tender is for appointing a contractor to implement the new public square, says BACA. Interested contractors should bid before the 2nd of October 2022, with a BD500 bond and BD30 tender fees.
A bit of history Siyadi Majlis, the second family residence of one of the leading grand pearl merchant families (tajir al-lu’lu’) in the Kingdom, is part of the Siyadi Complex. The exquisitely decorated Siyadi Majlis, the pearling era’s only four-storey building, is the jewel of the nominated pearling testimony.
Its ground-floor apartments, built in 1850, are among the earliest stone structures in Muharraq. Added in 1921, the majlis offers the last remaining example in which a tajir al-lu’lu’ received pearl merchants from as far away as India and Europe to negotiate over his special pearl collections.
The complex consists of three interrelated buildings: Siyadi House, a family residence built by Abdullah bin Isa Siyadi; Siyadi Majlis with an impressive guest room built by Ahmad bin Jassim Siyadi and Siyadi Mosque, donated to the community by Isa and Jassim bin Ahmad Siyadi.
