Bahrain lends a helping hand to Pakistan flood victim

Royal Humanitarian Foundation Secretary-General Dr Mustafa Al-Sayed yesterday  visited areas ravaged by the torrential rain and flooding in Pakistan, affirming Bahrain’s support to the Pakistani people in this crisis. Record monsoon rains and glacier melt in northern mountains have triggered floods that have killed more than 1,391 people, sweeping away houses, roads, railway tracks, bridges, livestock and crops. Pakistan estimates the damage at $30 billion. Vast swathes of the country are still underwater, forcing hundreds of thousands of people from their homes.

The government says the disaster disrupted the lives of nearly 33 million people. Dr Al-Sayed said that the Kingdom is committed to the people of Pakistan amid this dire humanitarian catastrophe Pakistan is going through. He also signed an agreement with Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority, led by Lieutenant-General Akhtar Nawaz, to disburse aid for flood victims. Dr Walid Al-Manea, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, and National Guard officers are with Dr Al Sayed during the trip to distribute urgent relief aid.

His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs , oversees Ba h ra i n ’s aid to the flood-hit areas in Pakistan. His Highness, in a message, stressed that Bahrain stands by the Pakistani people in this crisis, lauding the constant humanitarian initiatives launched by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Honorary President of the Royal Humanitarian Foundation. Pakistani officials briefed Bahraini delegates on the extent of destruction caused by the floods. Dr Al Sayed conveyed to them the support and condolences of Bahraini leadership, stressing the depth of the ties binding the two countries.

Ambassador of Bahrain to Pakistan, Muhammad Ibrahim Muhammad, was present. Bahrain’s Ambassador affirmed that HM the King is always at the forefront in supporting the needy and stricken people across the world. He also extended thanks and appreciation to HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister for HRH’s stances in support of brotherly and friendly people under all circumstances.
