Nader takes Indian club singles title

Mohammed Nader from UAE defeated Bahrain’s Yousif Qaed in straight sets 7-6(5), 6-1 in the Super Singles final as the 67th Indian Club Open Tennis Tournament concluded at the weekend.

After a hugely entertaining first set, Nader took advantage as Qaed’s game fell apart in the second set.

Eight invited top players from Bahrain, the GCC and Hungary competed for the title starting with two groups of four in a round-robin format with the top two qualifying to the semi-final stage.

The Men’s Singles title went to Rashid Obaidli who defeated Abdulla Mohammed and Mohammed also had an interest in the Men’s Doubles Final where he and partner Hassan Redha beat Abdul Rahman Janahi and Ali Dawani, a participant in the Super Singles event with a comfortable 6-3, 6-1 straight sets victory.

A prize giving ceremony was held after the finals with the winners and runners-up in each of the categories presented with trophies.

The ceremony was presided over by Ashok Kumar T.S, General with presentations given by Khamis Al Muqla, President of Bahrain Tennis Club; Fuad Al Rowaie, General Secretary of Bahrain Tennis Federation; Hamdi Abdul Jawad, General Manager of Bahrain Tennis Club; Essam Abdul A’al, ex National player and Head Coach of Bahrain Tennis and members of the executive committee of The Indian Club.

The championship was sponsored by Y.K. Almoayyed and Sons, Mashreq Bank, EK Kanoo, Trafco, Bhaskar Devji and Raymonds.

Ladies Singles: Frana Ugarkovic bt Areej Fareh 6-2, 6-1. Veteran Mens SinglesLeo bt Mohammed Tahir 7-6(3), 6-2.

Veteran Mens Doubles: Leo/Chris bt Cassius Pereira/ Romy 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. 

Boys U18 Singles: Rahul Jaideep bt Hamed Abdul A’Aal 6-4, 4-6.6-2. Children’s Singles: Mathias Hoffman bt Akshat Gupta 10-4.
