His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, emphasised Bahrain’s commitment to further strengthen Bahrain-Japan relations for the benefit of both countries and their peoples.
HRH Prince Salman was speaking as he attended yesterday in Tokyo former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s state funeral — the first in Japan in 55 years and only the second in the postwar era.
He extended condolences to Abe’s wife, Akie Abe, and their family, and to the Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, at the State Guest House of Akasaka Palace.
Mourners lined up yesterday to pay respects to Abe, Japan’s longest-serving prime minister, more than two months since his assassination. HRH Prince Salman commended Abe’s prominent role in strengthening Bahrain-Japan relations and partnership across various fields, and recalled his service to his country and its citizens.
His Royal Highness said that Japan and the international community have lost a statesman who devoted his life to serving his country and people. Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani and several senior officials also attended the state funeral.
