Verma, Jindapol clinch Badminton titles
India’s 11th seeded Sameer Verma made light work in winning the men’s singles in straight games when he defeated Singaporean fourth seed Liang Derek Wong 21-14, 21-10 as The Bahrain International Badminton Challenge 2015 concluded late Saturday night at Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town.
The championship was the highest profile badminton ever played in Bahrain and worth U$15,000 in prize money, featuring around 150 star players representing 32 countries including a number of those ranked in the top 100 and was organised by the Bahrain Badminton and Squash Federation.
In the other finals played, Thailand’s fifth seeded Nitchaon Jindapol beat India’s Saili Rane after a tough first game 24-22, 21-10 in the women’s singles and in women’s doubles, Thailand’s S Amritrapai and P Chochuwung defeated compatriots C Chayanit and P Muenwong in a three-game thriller 21-6, 15-21, 21-16.
The men’s doubles title went to the fourth seeded Thailand pairing of Bodin Issara and Nipitphon Puangpuapech with a 21-9, 21-14 victory over compatriots WannawatAmpunsuwanand TinnIsriyanate and Thailand made it four titles when the mixed doubles pairing of Bodin Issara and Savitree Amitrapai triumphed over top seeds from Singapore Danny Bawa Chrisnanta and Vanessa Neo 21-17, 21-19.
