Bahrain keen to boost GCC joint economic cooperation

Bahrain is exploring ways to enhance joint economic cooperation with neighbouring GCC countries.

This was emphasised by Finance and National Economy Minister Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa as he chaired Bahrain’s delegation at the 117th meeting of the GCC Financial and Economic Cooperation Committee, and the joint meeting of the Ministers of Finance and Governors of the Central Banks in the GCC countries with the Director General of the International Monetary Fund.

The meeting is being held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with the participation of the GCC Secretary General. During the 117th meeting of the Financial and Economic Cooperation Committee, discussions focused on ways of boosting joint cooperation and reviewed issues on the meeting’s agenda.

The meeting also cast light on developments related to studies and projects that the Office of Economic and Development Affairs is following up on. It also spotlighted the developments of the programme to achieve economic unity among the GCC member states by 2025.

Shaikh Salman also participated in the joint meeting of the finance ministers and central bank governors of the GCC countries with the Director General of IMF. Discussions focused on the latest developments in the global and regional economy, and a number of related topics.

In addition, Shaikh Salman participated in the high-level event organised by the Ministry of Finance in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and IMF, which was held under the theme “Working Together to Address Food Insecurity”.

The event was held on the sidelines of the joint meetings held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in the presence of Finance Ministers and Central Banks Governors in the GCC countries, international, Islamic and Arab financial institutions and institutions of the Arab Coordination Group During the function, the latest developments related to food security were discussed alongside ways of enhancing cooperation and joint action between various international financial institutions.
