September 2022 was warmer in Bahrain than usual

Last month, September 2022, was warmer than normal in temperatures with above average wind speed, according to a latest report by the Meteorological Directorate within the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications.

The mean temperature of the month was 34.3°C which is 1.1°C above the long-term normal for September and this goes on record as the fifth highest mean temperature for September since 1902.

This is the same as in September 2010. The highest mean monthly temperature for September was 34.8°C recorded in 2020.

The mean maximum temperature of the month was 38.5°C which is 0.8°C above the longterm normal and this goes on record as the seventh highest mean maximum temperature for September since 1946.

This is the same as in September 1998 and 2007. The highest mean monthly maximum temperature for September was 39.8°C recorded in 2020.

During the month Bahrain had nine days with a maximum temperature exceeding 40°C. The highest temperature recorded during the month was 43.1°C which occurred on the 12th September at Bahrain International Airport.

The highest temperature recorded for September at Bahrain International Airport was 45.5°C which occurred on 4th September 2013.

The highest temperature recorded in the month at Bahrain International Circuit was 45.8°C which was recorded on the 5th September and at Durrat Al Bahrain was 44.8°C which was recorded on the 12th September.

The mean minimum temperature of the month was 31.1°C which is 1.6°C above the longterm normal and this goes on record as the fifth highest mean minimum temperature for September since 1946.

The highest mean monthly minimum temperature for September was 31.5°C recorded in 2015.

The lowest temperature recorded was 26.6°C on the 29th September at Bahrain International Airport but recorded 23.2°C on the same night at Durrat Al Bahrain.

The mean relative humidity for September was 56 per cent whereas the mean maximum relative humidity was 72pc and the mean minimum relative humidity was 33pc.

The maximum relative humidity was 84pc recorded on the 22nd September and the minimum relative humidity was 12pc recorded on the 12th September.

September 2022 was the third sunniest month for all September’s since the sunshine records began in 1968.

The total hours of sunshine for the month were 337.5 hours.

The highest monthly total hours of sunshine for September was 339.8 hours recorded in 2014.

Only trace amounts of precipitation were recorded on 21st September at the Bahrain International Airport. The mean wind speed for September was 8 knots.

The prevailing wind was 28pc from the Northwest direction. Gust winds reached 28 knots on the 24th and 26th September at Bahrain International Airport.

Easterly winds accounted for 21pc of the observation.

Dust was reported on the 25th September. Visibility dropped to 3000 meters at Bahrain International Airport.
