The University of Bahrain (UoB) officials have pledged a thorough probe and subsequent strict action against the students after “an indecent image” apparently shot within the university premises went viral across all social media platforms.

The university said in a statement issued that, “there are legal tools that enable it to hold any students who deviate from the rules and regulations in force on the university premises.”

“The university will not tolerate any abuses or behavior that endangers the public or the rule of law in the Kingdom.

“Any department that violates university and community values and morals will be investigated and held accountable.”

The UoB has strict codes pertaining to behaviour and dressing within the campus premises. “The appearance and dressing of students should be in harmony with the Bahraini society customs, traditions, religious, social and moral values.

“Yet there will be due consideration with regard to personal freedom and diversity in their social and educational backgrounds.”

“Bahrain is built on generations of Islamic traditions which are rooted firmly in its culture and tribal heritage. These traditions have been passed down from generation to generation and form the cornerstone of everyday life for Bahraini families,” a university source said.

“Bahrainis are friendly people who show tolerance and an open-minded approach to visitors and the residents in their country; but Bahraini culture and values should always be respected.

“The culture and laws in Bahrain are designed to ensure that everyone is respectful of each other regardless of their faith and nationality.

“Holding hands for married couples is tolerated but any public indecency is considered an offence. Open displays of affection are generally not tolerated.

“Bahraini’s and residents alike should avoid conduct and behaviour which might be perceived as breaching these norms as it may lead to the authority to take actions against such act,” the source added.
