An expat woman accused of physically assaulting a child in a nursery has been sentenced to three years behind bars, while another woman involved in filming her while committing the crime received one-year jail term.
Both of the defendants were also fined BD100 for the charge of working in the nursery without license.
They will be permanently deported from the country after the execution of the penalty.
The Public Prosecution had received a report from the Budaiya Police Station that a nursery worker had physically assaulted a girl there.
It was discovered that the assault was filmed by another worker in the same nursery.
The video went viral across social media platforms and was met by wide denunciation in the Kingdom of Bahrain as many made their dismay felt on the Instagram account of the nursery.
The Public Prosecution began investigating the report and ordered the arrest of the workers for questioning.
When confronted with the recorded clip they confessed to the charge and were detained.
Upon evidence that the nursery’s license had expired and that its employees are not authorised to work in the field, the Public Prosecution ordered the closure of the nursery and assigned the child victim’s case to the Child Protection Centre.
The accused were referred to the competent court, which issued the aforementioned ruling.
Meanwhile, the owner of the nursery was sentenced to two months for keeping the nursery open, although its license has expired, and he was fined BD1,000 for the crime.
