The High Criminal Court awarded the death penalty to a man - an Asian national - for the pre-meditated killing of the resident caretaker of a building in which he was staying.

The murder was over disputes related to a decision by the landlord to hike rents, which the victim was supposed to collect.

The issue resulted in onand-off disputes between the caretaker, the defendant and his father.

A noisy argument between the caretaker and the father further escalated the issue.

During interrogation, the defendant said: “On that day, I went upstairs to his room and waited for him to arrive.”

“As soon as he stepped in, I pounced upon him and stabbed him multiple times.

“He stopped breathing soon, and I left.

However, the brutal attack came to light only when the landlord decided to check on the man, who failed to answer even after calling multiple times.

“I called him several times, but he never picked up.

“So, I went to his room in the building. “As I stepped in, I received the shock of my life.

“There, I saw him lying motionless in a pool of blood with his objects scattered all over,” the landlord told police officers during interrogation.

The landlord also informed the police.

Police soon reached the building and secured the crime scene for forensic experts to examine.

The forensic team collected crucial evidence, including DNA samples and fingerprints, which later led to identifying and proving the suspect’s hand in the crime.
