The High Criminal Court sentenced an Asian man to 15 years in prison after he was found attempting to smuggle 66 capsules containing heroin and psychoactive chemicals into the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The defendant will be also deported from the Kingdom after completing his sentence.

The accused arrived via Bahrain International Airport from Pakistan, and as he passed through customs, the first witness suspected him.

He inspected him and discovered nothing. When questioned if he was in possession of any illegal items, he denied it, however, his face expressions were anxious, so the customs officer brought him to the X-ray machine room.

His body was found to carry around 66 capsules, including 48 that contained heroin and 18 that had psychoactive substances.

When questioned again, the suspect acknowledged taking capsules containing narcotic drugs to smuggle them into the Kingdom for BD1,000.

The Anti-Drug Department at the Ministry of Interior discovered that the accused was part of a network that transports narcotic drugs into the Kingdom with the purpose of trafficking.

The accused’s role was to smuggle narcotic drugs.

The suspects were charged by the Public Prosecution with smuggling and possessing the narcotic substance (heroin) and the psychotropic substance methamphetamine with intent to peddle.
