The Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS) has set up a special pavilion in the Avenues Mall during which its paramedics have briefed and trained many citizens and residents on “cardiopulmonary resuscitation”, and how to provide urgent assistance to people in their surroundings who may be suffering a heart attack.
The training comes at a time when statistics from the World Health Organization indicate that heart disease constitutes 16% of the causes of death globally.
The event was attended by Dr Mariam Ibrahim Al Hajri, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health at the Ministry of Health, Member of the Board of Directors of the Association Dr Faisal Radhi Al Musawi, Secretary General of the Association Mr Mubarak Al Hadi, Dr Kawthar Al Eid, Head of the First Aid Committee at the Society, Ms Fatima Abdul Rahman, Vice-Chairman of the Committee, and several members of the Committee, with the participation of the Royal Charity Foundation, the Paralympic Committee, the General Authority for Sports, in addition to clubs, sports federations and civil society institutions.
Over a full day, BRCS paramedics provided information to attendees about CPR in several emergencies, such as a heart attack or near-drowning, in which the patient’s breathing or pulse stopped, using models and equipment for practical training, including training in cardiac rescue by hands in four steps, and constant chest pressure at a rate of 100 to 120 compressions per minute until an ambulance or professional assistance arrives.
The organising team conducted a live broadcast via video communication of the proceedings of this training for three hours continuously, within the framework of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s partnership with the countries of the world on this occasion.
