Shaikha Hayat wins IOC sports award
Supreme Council for Youth and Sports member, Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) board member and chairwoman of the women’s sports committee Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa has been granted the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Women and Sport Award for 2015.
She will collect her award at a gala ceremony held at the IOC premises today in Lausanne, Switzerland, in the presence of International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach and high-ranking sports officials from around the world.
The award is one of several to Shaikha Hayat in appreciation of her significant role and contributions in the sports sector and women’s sports in particular.
Shaikha Hayat had earlier won the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award in 2012 and also received a diploma from the IOC for her effective contributions in women’s sports in 1992.
She started her sports career in 1976 when she represented Bahrain’s national table tennis team in many regional and international championships and then moved on to sports management and was outstanding in this area where she is now the president of the Bahrain Table Tennis Association and board member of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and the BOC.
She is also heading the Arab National Olympic Committees and the supervising and follow-up committee of Women’s Arab Clubs Games.
