Polls open in 37 stations abroad kicking off Bahrain 2022 quadrennial elections

Bahrainis in Italy, like all other Bahrainis abroad, started casting their ballots to elect the new Council of Representatives.

Polling and counting committees have been made available to people from 8 am to 8 pm, the local time of the city in which the embassy, consulate or diplomatic mission is located.

The polling station at the embassy in Rome opened exactly at 8 am for the quadrennial event that celebrates Bahrain's strong commitment to the democratic practice of empowering the people to elect their candidates.

"We are fully ready for the elections and we are keen on making the process smooth for all," Ambassador Nasser Al Beloushi told Bahrain News Agency (BAN) at the election station at the diplomatic mission in the Eternal City.

"Bahrain has been holding elections regularly without fail, and I have been involved in advance polls in Washington, Paris and now Rome."

In Bahrain, Election Day for parliamentary and municipal seats will be on November 12. The second round if no candidate gets the majority of votes in the constituency will be on November 19.

However, Bahrainis abroad whether they are tourists or living there could from Tuesday cast their ballots in the designated diplomatic missions.

The results of the polls abroad will be added to those in the Kingdom to declare the 40 members who will constitute the Council of Representatives, one of the two chambers of the bi-cameral parliament.

The abroad ballot and count committees are located in Abu Dhabi, Algeria, Amman, Ankara, Baghdad, Bangkok, Beijing, Berlin, Brasilia, Brussels, Cairo, Damascus, Geneva, Islamabad, Jakarta, Jeddah, Karachi, Khartoum, Kuala Lumpur, Kuwait, Laayoune, London, Moscow, Mumbai, Muscat, Najaf, New Delhi, New York, Paris, Rabat, Riyadh, Rome, Tel Aviv, Tokyo and Tunis.

Democracy and the right to elect parliamentary and municipal representatives in Bahrain have been a robust tradition since 2002 and the elections have been held regularly every four years.
